![]() ![]() That is what I've been telling you to do. Outlook should support the use of App Password as well. And the only reason hMailServer would need to Log On to a GMail Account would be if you were using hMailServer to do an External Account (POP3) Download or you were Relaying through GMail's Server for which you haven't given a reason why you need to Relay.įourth, I don't know why you need to retrieve your emails from GMail with this Proxy you state you want to use, as opposed to just using Outlook as you would any other Email Service. ![]() ![]() You can't set up App Password without enabling Gmail 2FA but when using App Password as the Password within hMailServer you will not get a verification code when hMailServer Logs On to the GMail Account. Third, you do set up 2FA and App Password in Gmail with the App Password to be used in place of a normal password in hMailServer's Log On credentials submitted to GMail. But again the setup is a one time setup assuming you don't change every time you use it. Secondly, why do you need to Relay through Gmail as opposed to your Email Client Application submitting email messages directly the Recipient Address in GMail using hMailServer as the Email Server? One possible reason for using GMail as the Relay (which in my opinion is not a good choice as you have other issues but it is doable) is that your ISP blocks Port 25 meaning you have to use another Email Server to Relay through. Presumably this will be a permanent setup within hMailServer. Does that mean that I've to enable 2FA at Gmail and if yes, do I've then to enter each time the verification code?Īnd do you know if I can retrieve my email from Gmail via POP3 through the hMailServer or do I've to use 'OAuth2 Proxy' from GitHub?įirst, as I stated you only need to supply the App Password once when you configure hMailServer. You write to be able to set an app password, I've to enable 2FA. So I guess I've to set an app password, right? When recipient matches route, treat recipient as: (O) A local email address When sender matches route, treat sender as: (O) A local email address I think this will be a problem in my case, since I only use my email address and password for the authentication.ĭescription: Mail relay for status messages Thank you very much for your prompt reply. The key thing to remember as to whether you need an App Password is that if you need to provide Log On credentials to GMail, then you need to use the App Password but you should only need to supply the App Password once per set up the Account which connects to GMail. Check with GMail on these specifications for use of an App Password. Point of information: The App Password only needs to be generated once and supplied once for the App connecting to GMail but if you need to say recreate any account which uses that Password, I believe you will need to generate a new App Password for that app. If you want to Download External Account (POP3) Email from GMail into hMailServer, you will most likely need the App Password mattg refers to because you will need Log On to GMail to do this and an App Password is required to do this. Only offered a suggestion of using a proxy to send email to GMail which if I understand what you stated you needed correctly, you don't need to do that as you can directly send an email with hMailServer without any need to Log On to the GMail Account. You don't state that you need to relay anything to GMail. As mattg stated, sending an email to a GMail Account should require nothing extra to be done.
